With lyrics penned by the gifted poet, Eliza R. Snow, and music composed by Thomas McIntyre, a handcart pioneer, this hymn has won my heart again and again. 🥹
Eliza lived through all of the persecution of the Saints in Missouri. She not only saw hardships. She lived them. And yet she still wrote of Christ and of His redeeming love.✏️
Thomas, at the age of 26 years old, traded his home and his music career in Scotland for a handcart so that he could gather with the Saints in Zion. He left everything behind and came alone—enduring many hardships along the way.🎶
Their stories and lives have touched me deeply, and I have gone from arranging this hymn simply because I love it, to arranging it as a way of honoring them both and keeping their music alive.
I hope this cello and piano arrangement brings you peace and helps you feel the Spirit.
