I created a piano / cello arrangement of this hymn earlier this year, and decided to revoice it for SATB choir.
I love many different hymns, but this one holds a very sacred and special place in my heart. The lyrics by Eliza Snow are beautifully poetic, and the soaring melody by Thomas McIntyre brings everything to life.
“How great, how glorious, how complete
redemption’s grand design,
where justice, love, and mercy meet
in harmony divine.”
I don’t know of a more comforting line in all of hymnody. 🥹
